Congratulations to Barboursville Vineyards! At the recently concluded Governor’s Cup competition for Virginia wines, the 2014 Vermentino Reserve not only won a gold medal, but also the highest honor: being included in the “best of show” Governor’s Case, judged to be the 12 best Virginia wines.
Vermentino 2014 Reserve
This unique, popular selection has been featured several times at our tastings and continues to be highly in demand…below is from our tasting notes and courtesy of Barboursville Vineyards:
“Native to the Italian maritime growing regions of Liguria, Corsica and Sardinia, Vermentino has adapted splendidly to the warm climate in Piedmont Virginia. A spontaneously ingratiating white wine of self-proclaiming love for seafood and fish in all preparations, Vermentino’s dry but distinctly luscious minerality is complemented by generous palate weight and length, which is captured with fermentation and aging in stainless steel, under continuing lees contact of at least 7 or 8 months…”
